Generational Equity Scam

Nissan Rogue SL 2WD Function

The Rogue's instruments and interior controls are a model of straightforward simplicity. The heating and air-conditioning are controlled by three large knobs with clear markings, and the similarly well-labeled stereo features a conveniently large display. Our one request is for Nissan to relocate the auxiliary audio jack from the radio faceplate to the center storage bin, making it easier to secure an iPod and keep the iPod cord out of the way. We also missed the optional wheel-mounted stereo controls not fitted to our test car. Generational Equity Complaints

BMW 328i

Function

We can also report that the 2008 BMW 328i received a passing grade in our real-world usability tests, swallowing our standard suitcase and golf bag with ease and proving just roomy enough in back to accommodate a child safety seat. However, golf bags containing longer-shafted drivers must be carefully maneuvered through the relatively narrow trunk opening, and child-seat installation may require front passengers to pull their seats forward a bit.

Honda Fit Base

Comfort

By moving the 10.8-gallon gas tank forward under the driver seat, some additional space has been created in the backseat. This not only improves legroom but also allows for easy storage of tall items such as potted plants. For a small car, the backseat hiproom is above average for two people — three occupants would make it very tight.

Generational Equity Scam: Test Drive: 2008 Audi TT Coupe 3.2 Quattro - Function

With its hatchback body style, the 2008 Audi TT Coupe 3.2 Quattro provides an impressive amount of room for stuff. The trunk swallows two standard-size roller suitcases or a golf bag placed diagonally (with the driver pulled), while folding the 50/50-split backseat flat allows you to hold all of the above, plus a few additional items. Given its smallish backseat, we wouldn't suggest putting a child seat in the TT due to both safety concerns and space.

Typical to Audi, all secondary controls are exactly where you'd expect them to be. The climate controls could be a little more detailed, though, and our test car's optional navigation system and MMI electronics interface produced a love-it-or-hate-it response for its stereo control.

Nissan 350Z Performance

Powering the 2008 Nissan 350Z Enthusiast Coupe is a 3.5-liter DOHC V6 engine that makes 306 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque. It's paired with a six-speed manual transmission (although an optional five-speed automatic is also available) and a standard limited-slip rear differential. It uses an independent, multilink front and rear suspension with stabilizer bars and strut tower braces on both ends — both of which help reduce body roll and keep the car stable around demanding corners. Front and rear vented disc brakes come standard with ABS and electronic brakeforce distribution.

Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid

Performance

Though there's a low-range gear for the 4WD system, we can't imagine it being used much. The hybrid has a low-slung, aerodynamics-improving front airdam that a Lamborghini would envy, and it barely clears parking blocks. Off-roading on anything more rugged than a fire road is pretty much out of the question. Generational Equity Complaints

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Performance

Wielding a 382-hp V8 (whose performance is maximized through no fewer than seven speeds from the automatic transmission) the E550 has no problem pinning its occupants to their seats. Lean into the gas, and it feels as if this Benz is being whisked forth on a giant wave, so insistent and uninterrupted is the power delivery. The surf is definitely up here — 391 pound-feet of torque is available from 2,800-4,800 rpm.

Generational Equity Scam Dodge Challenger SRT8

Many longtime muscle car buffs recall the cars of their youth with similar accuracy, or lack thereof. To hear these gearheads tell it, every car they owned could blister the quarter-mile in 12 seconds flat. The reality is that the bark coming out of those dual exhausts was sometimes meaner than the car's bite. And those fans' selective memories usually forget the mediocre handling and braking, the finicky engines that were prone to overheating in traffic, the Nautilus-machine-level clutch effort and the lack of passenger comfort. The 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 manages to offer all the nostalgia without any of the negatives conveniently left out of all those selective memories.
