Jamie Ashdown is a professional football player born on November 30, 1980 in Reading, which is a town in England.
Jamie Ashdown started his football career as a member of Reading’s youth team in 1991 and was trained there till 1998. Following this, the goalkeeper was graduated to the senior team of the club and established a name for himself as a bright prospect for a goalkeeper. In 2001, Jamie Ashdown was sent on loan to Gravesend & Northfleet, after which he moved to Arsenal in 2002 on a work experience placement. The same year, the Athletic Football Club, Bournemouth, which plays in the Football League Two, bought him on loan and used his expertise as a goalkeeper in two of its matches. During the 2003-2004 season, Jamie Ashdown joined the Rushden & Diamonds football club as a loan player and featured in nineteen games for this club. Following these brief stints at different clubs, he worked his way into Reading’s first team squad. By the end of his stint at Reading in 2004, Jamie Ashdown had made thirteen appearances as a goalkeeper for the club.
In 2004, Jamie Ashdown declined to sign a new contract offered by Reading and went on to sign a contract for the Premier League side, Portsmouth. The club made this move with the idea of replacing its first-choice veteran goalkeeper, Shaka Hislop, on his retirement. Even though Jamie Ashdown started his first season at Portsmouth as a substitute goalkeeper, he earned a place in the team’s starting line-up after Shaka Hislop suffered from an injury. He faced stiff competition for his place in the team from other goalkeepers, Konstantinos Chalkias and Sander Westerveld, but their poor performances meant that he would be restored as the number one goalkeeper.
In 2006, Jamie Ashdown was sent as a loan player to Norwich City, and on October 21, 2006 he made his first appearance for this club in a match against Cardiff City, which was held at Carrow Road. He was used as a replacement for Paul Gallacher in the starting eleven and helped his team win the match 1-0. He played his second game for Norwich City in a match against Stoke City, after which he returned to Portsmouth. As of 2008, Jamie Ashdown has played in thirty six games as the goalkeeper for the Portsmouth football club.
