Accomplished trombonist and conductor Jamey Van Zandt has held the position of Trombonist in The United States Air Force Brass Quintet. In this role, Jamey Van Zandt played for distinguished military officials and civilians at the Pentagon and the White House, as well as at full-honor memorial services at Arlington National Cemetery. In 2001, he also performed at a US Capitol Concert as a Featured Soloist. Prior to this role, Jamey Van Zandt joined The Cavaliers drum and bugle corps while completing his Bachelor of Arts in Music at The University of Texas. During his two-year stint, Jamey Van Zandt won two Drum Corps International titles with the group, namely 1994 Individual and Ensemble Baritone Soloist Champion and 1995 World Champion. Over the years, Jamey Van Zandt taught music at various educational institutions, including Fairfax County Public Schools, Akins High School, and his alma mater The University of Texas at Austin. As Assistant Band Director at Akins High School, he led his students to the finals of the University Interscholastic League’s State Marching Band Contest in 2006. The band also received Division One Ratings in Concert & Sight-Reading Contests. These and other achievements resulted in Jamey Van Zandt being acknowledged by the Austin Independent School District Board of Trustees for teaching excellence. In 2007, Jamey Van Zandt matriculated at The University of Texas at Austin for a second time to obtain his Doctor of Musical Arts with a focus on trombone performance. The following year, he participated in the Concerto Competition Finals and played Concerto for Trombone by memory. With his doctorate degree in progress, Jamey Van Zandt presently instructs low brass at the Round Rock Independent School District, conducts musical clinics in the Austin and San Antonio areas, and performs with the Austin Symphony Orchestra and the San Antonio Opera.
