James Pritzker is a direct descendant of the well-known Pritzkers family of Chicago, America. The Pritzker family is one of the wealthiest in modern America and figure on the Forbes Magazine’s “America’s Richest Families” list with a combined wealth of $15 billion. The Pritzkers are known philanthropists and connoisseurs of the modern architecture. James Pritzker’s father, Robert Pritzker, who co-founded the Marmon Group, contributed $60 million to the Illinois Institute of Technology as a philanthropic gesture. They also instituted the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize for architectural marvel.



James Pritzker is divorced from his wife and he has three children – Tal, Andrew, and William.

    Life of James Pritzker – An Inside Look



    James Pritzker, after receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Loyola University of Chicago in 1979, decided to join the army, though he had his share of family fortune through inheritance. He was drafted into the US army in 1974 and assigned to various assignments. He received several awards including the Meritorious Service Medal for his exemplary services. He retired from military as a Lieutenant Colonel in March 2001 with a career that spanned 27 years. He is the latest recipient of the Gen. William DePuy award – A U.S. Army Cadet Command’s highest individual honor.



In 2003, James Pritzker founded the Pritzker Military Library, a non-partisan research institution for the study of military history in Chicago. Currently, he is the President and Chairman of Tawani Foundation, which incorporates the Tawani Charitable Foundation, the Pritzker Military Library, and James N Pritzker Charitable Distribution Fund. He serves as a strategic advisor to Alliance Financial LLC.



James Pritzker ranks 236th on the Forbes 400 list of “The 400 Richest Americans 2009’ with a wealth worth $1.5 billion.



Philanthropic Side of James Pritzker



Amid a myriad of business activities, James Pritzker finds time to lend his time, effort and financial support to philanthropic causes. He serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Norwich University, the Planetary Studies Foundation, Illinois National Guard and Militia Historical Society, the US Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, the USO of Illinois and the National Strategy Forum. He has also made two scientific expeditions to Antarctica and the South Pole with the Planetary Studies Foundation.
