James Morrison is an English footballer who was born on May 25, 1986 in Darlington. He mostly plays as a right winger and he can also play as an attacking midfielder. His ability to run with the ball at pace makes him a first-choice player to play in the middle of the field. James Morrison has represented the England national team at all levels and in June 2007 he was recognised as one of the players who were eligible to play for the Scotland national team because of his grandparents. James Morrison joined the Scotland squad as a trainee in August 2007 and made his debut in a friendly match against Czech Republic in Prague, on May 30, 2008.
After honing his football skills at Middlesbrough's youth academy, James Morrison progressed to become a senior member at the Middlesbrough Football Club (F.C). He was a part of the team that finished as runners-up at the 2003 Football Association (FA) Youth Cup and his numerous impressive feats, including a goal in the final first leg 3–0 win over Aston Villa, helped the Boros lift the 2004 FA Youth Cup.
His debut as a first-team member came on January 3, 2004 when James Morrison came on as a second-half substitute in a 2-0 win over Notts County at the FA Cup. Four months later, on the final day of the season, he played as a substitute in his first Premiership match in a clash with Portsmouth. On September 30, 2004 James Morrison scored his first goal for the club in a 1-1 draw, in the second leg, against Banik Ostrava at the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Cup. This equalizing goal, which came in the last-minute, marked his first European action for the club and helped the club secure a 4–1 aggregate victory. In his stint with the club, he featured in 66 matches and netted three goals.
James Morrison transferred to West Bromwich Albion by signing a four-year contract on August 7, 2007 and on the first day of the 2007-08 season he made his first appearance for Albion as a 2nd-half substitute in a clash with Burnley. On October 23, 2007 James Morrison netted his first goal for the club in a 2-1win over Blackpool. Describing it as the best goal of his career, he went on to bag the West Bromwich Albion Supporters Club's Goal of the Season award. James Morrison also contributed in helping the Baggies win the 2008 Football League Championship (II) and as of 2008 he has played 39 matches, scoring five times.
