About James Joiner

Former principal James Joiner worked hard to supply an exceptional education to students in New Jersey and Indiana for over 15 years. During his accomplished career as an educator and school administrator, James Joiner taught science at JFK High School in Paterson, New Jersey; worked as a Chief School Administrator at Edison-Schomburg Charter School in Jersey City, New Jersey; and acted as Principal of Great Falls Academy and of Paterson P.S. 20 in Paterson, New Jersey. Most recently, James Joiner served as Principal of Clifford Pierce Middle School in Merrillville, Indiana, and of Fall Creek Valley Middle School in Indianapolis, Indiana, before beginning an independent consultancy in 2009. Outside of his teaching duties, James Joiner has been an influential community member who has sought to establish foundations for youth development.

James Joiner is the Founder of the non-profit organization Rescuing Inner Sity Kids (RISK, Inc.), a community-based youth development and mentoring organization. In 1999, James Joiner was recognized for his long history of helping children with a Russell Berrie Foundation Making a Difference Award.

When not attending to his duties as an independent consultant to non-profit and for-profit youth organizations, James Joiner spends his time volunteering or participating in community events and organizations. James Joiner is an active member of and contributor to the New Disciple Love Fellowship Church food bank in Michigan City; the Fletcher Place Community Center in Indianapolis; and the Student African American Brotherhood program at Indiana University Northwest. In the past, James Joiner has served as a mentor and after-school tutor at schools in Paterson, New Jersey, and he founded and directed the Young Men’s Christian Association in Paterson, New Jersey. James Joiner is a regular contributor to the United Way, Goodwill Industries International, Inc., and the NAACP.

Before launching his career in education, James Joiner attended Yale University and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and a Ross Rossbach Scholarship from the Ivy League institution. After a decade of working in information technology, James Joiner enrolled in Montclair State University, where he received his Master of Arts in Educational Administration and Supervision in 1998.
