James Cortopassi, Director of Litigation Support and E-Discovery Coordination at New Jersey Legal, has achieved professional success by virtue of hard work and academic excellence. Cortopassi began his legal career in 1997, when he became a Law Clerk for the Newark, New Jersey, firm Pope, Bergin, and Verdesco. During his clerkship, James Cortopassi conducted extensive research into state and federal legal systems, and he also prepared memoranda for more than 100 criminal cases spanning a 10-year period.

Following his clerkship with Pope, Bergin, and Verdesco, James Cortopassi completed his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. He subsequently enrolled at Michigan State University College of Law, where he graduated with his Juris Doctor (J.D.) in 2008. During the J.D. program, James Cortopassi amassed an impressive list of extracurricular credentials, including President of the Trial Advocacy Society, Moot Court member and semi-finalist, Vice-Chief Justice of the Law School Judicial Board, and President of the Italian-American Law Society.

In his current role with New Jersey Legal, James Cortopassi manages large e-discovery projects including hosted data solutions, forensic acquisitions, data processing and culling, imaging, and trial presentations and demonstratives. He provides training, workflow solutions, and technical support to the staff and attorneys at the firm; he serves as program manager for a team of attorneys primarily responsible for document review, analysis, and production.

When he is not busy with his work at New Jersey Legal, James Cortopassi supports various charities, including Cure for Lupus, Be A Buddy Not A Bully Foundation, Children’s Miracle Network, among others. In his leisure time, Cortopassi enjoys travel, reading, and attending sporting events.
