Ibrahim Sonko is a defense football player that was born on January 22nd, 1981 in Bignola, Senegal. Ibrahim Sonko is also known as Ibrahima Sonko and is the Senegalese defender that joined Reading in June 2004 and has become one of the important members of the Royals’ squad since he joined. Ibrahim Sonko began his football career at St. Etienne and spent two years in the Academy of St. Etienne before he moved to Grenoble where he stayed until 2002. Ibrahim Sonko became a fixated regular at Brentford where Sonko scored six times in his first season and played the majority of the games in the second season. Ibrahim Sonko left Senegal when he was a baby, only 6 months old. After spending two years in the St. Etienne Academy Sonko signed with Grenoble before moving to Brentford in Summer 2002. Sonko’s 2005/2006 season played an integral role in his influence at the Royals defense, when he scored three times including a later winner in the 3-2 victory to Crystal Palace. After an unfortunate knee injury, he was ruled out of the 2006 season, but made his comeback in the 4-2 defeat at Blackburn Rovers in October 2007.
Ibrahim Sonko is a favourite amoung fans who even have a song “Sonko is Superman” which was created in his honour for his excellent form in 2006/2007 when he scored one goal in 23 starts. Ibrahim Sonko has only played unofficial and friendly games for his home country, and has yet to commit himself as a professional football player to Senegal. In the 2006/2007 season, Ibrahim Sonko displayed one of his most solid seasons as of yet. Ibrahim Sonko has captained the Senegal Under-23 and played for their national side in an unofficial play for France.
