Possessing Bachelor’s degrees from both UCLA, and UCSC, in English Literature and Biology respectively. Hunter Whitney assists companies in understanding the importance of user experience on the web. As Principal of Hunter Whitney & Associates, Inc., Hunter Whitney has dedicated his efforts to providing considered design advice for more than 20 companies, including Silicon Valley firms such as Yahoo!, Intel, and eBay. Hunter Whitney has also consulted for the National Cancer Institute and the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency. Utilizing his expertise, Hunter Whitney aims to organize information in a manner that is easy to navigate, effective, and relevant to user needs.
Hunter Whitney’s projects range from web and interactive products to desktop applications. Hunter Whitney believes that all projects require a focused approach to research with the goal of understanding exactly what the client wants to accomplish. This is the primary reason why Hunter founded Hunter Whitney & Associates, Inc. In addition to gathering research, Hunter Whitney’s company conducts surveys and interviews to obtain vital information from users. This feedback provides Hunter Whitney with a glimpse of the necessary changes that need to be made in order to make the end product usable and effective. Drawing upon his expertise, Hunter Whitney has written articles about various topics in user experience design that have been published in UX Magazine, Interactions and others.
In addition to his work, Hunter Whitney devotes significant time to volunteering. One of his most recent efforts is with CrisisCommons. In response to the Haitian earthquake, Hunter Whitney organized and led a Crisis Camp in the Silicon Valley to help with the Haitian earthquake relief efforts.
Hunter Whitney worked for large corporations, government agencies and non-profits such as the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Along with the web manager, Hunter Whitney had the challenge of re-organizing tens of thousands of pages of static and dynamic content that was already online. For various reasons, the IA and UI changes had to be made in stages. The five-year project led to an information architecture and user interface design that resulted in more discoverable content for a range of key users.
