About Heritage Auction Galleries

Coin connoisseur Jim Halperin established collectibles auction house Heritage Auctions with prominent numismatist Steve Ivy in 1976. The founders utilized their combined expertise in coin collecting and evaluation to create Heritage Coin, a subcategory of Heritage Auction focusing on accumulating and selling U.S. and world coins. Clients can receive a free auction evaluation for their collections or individual coins and consign valuable items for a competitively low commission fee. Heritage Auctions invests more than $7 million each year in marketing and advertising efforts for its auctions, reaching collectors at major conventions and over 470,000 registered bidders through its website.

In addition to Heritage Coin, Heritage Auctions consigns and sells lots in categories ranging from Art to Historical Memorabilia and Jewelry to Sports Collectibles. In October 2002, Heritage Auctions sold Nicolas Cage’s comic book collection for $5.2 million, breaking the Guinness World Record for highest-grossing Comic Book and Popular Culture auction. A year later, Heritage Auctions sold Don Levine’s original G.I. Joe prototype for $200,000, breaking an additional record in the highest price paid for a toy soldier. Additional significant auctions include Tonight Show host Johnny Carson’s microphone, which realized more than $50,000, and a game-used Babe Ruth baseball bat, which sold for over $500,000. In June 2009, an American soldier asked Heritage Auctions to sell his first edition volume of The Federalist. Heritage Auctions waived its seller’s commission fee in respect to the soldier’s service and sold The Federalist for more than $95,000.

Based in Dallas, Texas, Heritage Auctions has offices and showrooms in other U.S. and foreign cities. Members may place bids in person at Heritage Auctions, through the company’s website, or by e-mail, phone, and proxy.
