About Henry Tang

Professional Summary:

In my work as a massage therapist I specialise in helping people to alleviate chronic muscular pain, joint stiffness or other soft tissue (fascial) related restrictions through the application of advanced remedial and clinical massage therapy techniques.

I fully support the mission statement of one of the advanced training institutes of which I am a current student of and that is to raise the standards of massage therapy in the UK. To this end I would say that additionally there needs to be a small amount of public education in order to bring about greater awareness of the much wider range of conditions that advanced remedial massage therapy really can help with. Therefore, to change the perception that most people might otherwise have which would make them dismiss massage as just something you might indulge in for some pampering relaxation.

I look forward to the day when integrated healthcare is no longer a buzz word but a common reality, where conventional western medicine co-exists side by side with complementary/alternative medicine practices. I am also keen to work alongside and form partnerships with other local healthcare professionals, whether conventional or complementary/alternative so that we can work together, cross refer and bring an interdisciplinary approach to each our own respective practices.

Professional Experience:

After completing an undergraduate programme in computer science at university I embarked on a career spanning just a little over 9 years in the IT industry as a software developer working for various companies in various roles in that time. I made a sideways move into technical support and customer relations before being awoken to the call of a new career and new way of life in the field of complementary health. Since 2006, I have been avidly interested in, studying and training but above all learning experientially about complementary health by trying out or applying the ideas on myself as well as by observation of the people whom I have had the honour of working with. Remedial bodywork, clinical massage and physical therapies are my particular areas of interest and it is these which I continue to gain further training and experience in at this time. I have been very fortunate to have already worked with such a wide range of people either as learning case studies or actual clients, for example I have worked with people who have a disability, people who are terminally ill in a palliative care environment, and desk bound office workers of which I was one up until I found my new direction.

Some of the most common cases I have worked on include repetitive strain injuries, lower back pain, whiplash and lingering pain from scar tissue.

I am the deputy coordinator for the Exeter and district regional branch of the Complementary Therapists Association which holds monthly meetings which all complementary and alternative therapy practitioners are welcome to attend.
