Henri Camara, a professional football striker, was born on May 10, 1977 in Dakar, Senegal. He made his international debut for the Senegal national football team in a 1-1 draw against Nigeria in the African Cup of Nations qualifier on February 28, 1999. Henri Camara played in the 2002 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup and scored two goals. He made heads turn by scoring a Golden goal, a ruling that allows the team that scores the first goal during extra time to be declared the winner, against Sweden, which took Senegal into the quarter finals for the only time in its history.
Henri Camara was a part of the Africa Cup of Nations squad in 2004, 2006 and 2008. He played in a charity match between Europe and the rest of the world and scored 2 goals in the 2nd half of the game, after coming on as a substitute, taking the team to victory. As of 2008, Henri Camara has made 52 national appearances scoring 21 times.
Henri Camara kick started his football career in France with RC Strasbourg, in 1998. After playing 32 games and scoring 17 times for Neuchâtel Xamax, a Swiss football club, during 1999-00. He spent much of the 2000-01 season with the Swiss club Grasshopper-Club Zürich and also won the highly coveted Swiss Championship in 2001. Henri Camara went to Club Sportif (CS) Sedan Ardennes, a French football club, later that year and made 60 appearances scoring 22 times. Wolverhampton Wanderers, the newly promoted English Premier League club, signed him for a whopping £1.5 million in August 2003. Being a regular first-team player, Henri Camara was voted the fans' Player of the Year. Celtic F.C., a Scottish football club, took him on loan during 2004-05 and made 18 appearances scoring 8 goals. He also spent a brief time with the Southampton F.C. on loan in 2005 and scored four goals in his 13 appearances for the club.
In August 2005, Premiership newcomers Wigan Athletic signed him on a 3 year deal for an astounding fee of £3 million and in 2006 his contract was extended until 2009. Henri Camara was loaned out to the West Ham United F.C. for the 2007-08 season using the summer transfer window. In his first game for the club, he scored a brace in a 4-0 win over the Notts County F.C. in the Carling Cup.
