A new, state-of-the-art facility for the Hemophilia Treatment Center of Nevada has greatly increased its ability to serve the needs of the region’s residents who suffer from bleeding disorders. The Hemophilia Treatment Center of Nevada is an arm of the Children’s Specialty Center of Nevada, which relocated all of its operations in December of 2009 to its new facilities in Las Vegas. With the move, the combined Children’s Specialty Center and Hemophilia Treatment Center of Nevada gained 7,000 square feet of clinic space, including 14 private exam rooms, a 6-chair infusion suite with video-game stations, 2 spacious procedure rooms, and an expanded on-site pharmacy. Founder Jonathan Bernstein, M.D., a board-certified pediatrician, is proud to be able to offer specialized outpatient medical services in the new 10,000 square-foot, family-friendly environment. The Hemophilia Treatment Center of Nevada is the state’s only official hemophilia treatment center (HTC) and serves people of all ages. Many of the Hemophilia Treatment Center of Nevada’s visitors are families with children suffering from bleeding disorders, many of whom require a wide array of supportive services. From the beginning of his tenure at the Hemophilia Treatment Center of Nevada, Dr. Bernstein’s aim as medical director has been to offer the Center’s resources to anyone in need of care, regardless of their medical coverage. In keeping with that philosophy, he facilitated the founding of the Cure 4 The Kids Foundation, an organization dedicated to improving access to quality pediatric care on a sliding-scale fee structure that addresses the needs of the under- and uninsured. Recent findings of Centers for Disease Control (CDC) research support Dr. Bernstein’s convictions regarding the importance of care for all who seek it. The CDC’s study of 3,000 hemophiliacs concluded that sufferers who took advantage of the care offered at an HTC are 40% less likely to die of a hemophilia-related complication than those who did not benefit from care at a treatment center. Additionally, patients who proactively visit treatment centers are far less likely to be hospitalized later for bleeding-related issues.
