About Haven Daley
Since becoming a Video Journalist for The Associated Press, Haven Daley has written and shot a number of stories on a variety of different issues. In response to the economic downturn, Haven Daley filed pieces on foreclosures, eviction procedures, and the rise of graduate school applications. In the political realm, Haven Daley covered the 2006 Missouri Senate race and reactions of Sarah Palin’s supporters to the 2008 election. In terms of sports, Haven Daley wrote on American Olympic athletes Eric Shanteau, a 24-year-old breaststroker who underwent testicular cancer surgery, and Dara Torres, the 41-year-old swimmer who was the oldest person to compete on the U.S. Olympic swim team. Other topics reported on by Haven Daley include gay marriage, wildfires, a 2009 electronics show, and the freeing of a U.S. hiker after she spent a year in an Iranian prison. For his 2010 stories on a Samoan tsunami victim, a Jamaican Olympic skier, and unsafe water fountains in the nation’s schools, Haven Daley earned honors from the San Francisco Bay Area Press Photographers Association and the national Edward R. Murrow Awards. Prior to accepting a position with The Associated Press, Haven Daley served in several broadcast journalism roles around the country. He contributed pieces to CBS, ABC, and FOX affiliates in California, Ohio, Kentucky, and the Virgin Islands. While working in Houston, Haven Daley covered the Columbia space shuttle disaster, which was later featured on CNN. In addition, many of Haven Daley’s long-form features created for a public broadcasting station aired throughout Pennsylvania. During his career, Haven Daley has won awards from the Unity Journalism Convention (put on by UNITY: Journalists of Color, Inc.), the Native American Journalism Association, and the Society of Professional Journalists. A graduate of the Pennsylvania State University and Northwestern University, Haven Daley enjoys hiking and serving as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
