About Gul Moonis

An Assistant Professor of Radiology at the Harvard Medical School, Dr. Gul Moonis concurrently serves as a staff radiologist specializing in Neuroradiology at Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). Her current research interests focus on ear, nose, and throat (ENT) imaging, with specific emphasis on imaging the inner ear, as well as cancers of the head and neck. Prior to joining BIDMC in 2007, Dr. Gul Moonis belonged to the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and she was actively involved in the Comprehensive Head and Neck Cancer Center at the university’s hospital. While there, she established close relationships with the center’s medical staff, which enhanced her perspective on the imaging challenges faced by those treating cancers of the head and neck. Dr. Moonis’ special perspective informs her current research interests and fuels her determination to become preeminent in the field of head and neck imaging.

A strong advocate of an interdisciplinary approach to patient care, Dr. Gul Moonis directs the prestigious Neuroradiology Fellowship Program at BIDMC, a joint collaboration with Tufts Medical Center, and has established a didactic core curriculum for fellows. Dr. Moonis has also mentored many radiology residents for a variety of purposes as well as moderated several instructional events for the professional organizations to which she belongs, among them the American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR) and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).

Dr. Gul Moonis’ current formal teaching responsibilities include classroom instruction of 3rd-year Principal Clinical Experience (PCE) students at Harvard Medical School and radiology morning conferences with 39 radiology residents at BIDMC; in addition, she is responsible for the daily supervision and training of those residents. In all of these teaching positions, Dr. Moonis has consistently been characterized as an effective educator by her students and peers; she was honored once at Penn for excellence in teaching, and to date has also received two awards for teaching excellence at BIDMC.
