Gregor McIver - Professional Summary:
Gregor McIver currently works toward his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. Before enrolling in medical school, McIver earned a Master of Science in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Loyola Marymount University. He has also completed emergency medical technician training and coursework in biopsychology. Two of his research papers have merited publication, one of which focused on treating leukemia through hematopoietic stem-cell transplants and the other on the relationship between nucleus accumbens and cocaine use. While in medical school, Gregor McIver volunteers his time with Healing Hearts Across Borders, an organization that sends doctors and medical students to Mexico to establish clinics. These facilities see more than 1,000 patients each day, offering basic checkups and basic education.
Throughout his education, Gregor McIver has maintained a strong interest in medicine and has worked at multiple medical facilities to learn about the inner workings of hospitals. At the Cottage Hospital Emergency Room in Santa Barbara, he assisted the triage nurse by reporting the symptoms of incoming patients while also stocking patient rooms and facilitating laboratory tests. This setting taught him the importance of cooperation among medical facilities in the face of serious trauma. He also volunteered at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, California.
An avid surfer, Gregor McIver shares his passion with others as a Surf Instructor at Campsurf in Manhattan Beach. In this position, he heads instruction at the camp and supervises other teachers. In addition, he offers private, group, and corporate lessons. He has also taught surfing to underprivileged children and wounded veterans through Pure Surfing Experience.
