About Greg Munks
An expert in law enforcement tactics and organizational management, San Mateo County Sheriff Greg Munks brings over three decades of experience to his position. Greg Munks was elected to the position in 2006 after an impressive 13-year tenure as Undersheriff of San Mateo County. As Sheriff, Greg Munks maintains direct responsibility for more than 600 law enforcement officers and over $100M in budgetary funding. Thus far, Sheriff Munks has efficiently leveraged these resources into several successful programs, including the Community Alliance to Rebuild Our Neighborhood project (CARON). This program, which Sheriff Greg Munks helped create while he was Undersheriff, has shown great success in reducing gang violence in the North Fair Oaks region of San Mateo County and empowering citizens to make a difference in their community. In addition to the CARON project, Sheriff Greg Munks currently serves as Chairperson of the Northern California High Intensity Drug Trafficking Program (HIDTA). Professionally, Sheriff Greg Munks is associated with a number of local, state, and national law enforcement organizations. Currently, Sheriff Munks is a member of the California State Sheriffs' Association, the California Peace Officers' Association, the California Narcotic Officers' Association, the Western States Sheriffs' Association, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Outside of his professional affiliations, Sheriff Greg Munks serves in leadership roles on a number of community organizations, including the San Mateo County Service League, as well as Youth and Family Enrichment Services of San Mateo County. Sheriff Munks has formerly held Chairman positions for the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center and the San Mateo County History Museum. Before beginning his career in law enforcement, Sheriff Greg Munks attended Menlo College, earning a Bachelor's degree in Business Management. Sheriff Munks also holds an MBA from Golden Gate University. In his spare time, Sheriff Greg Munks enjoys golfing, skiing, and horseback riding. Sheriff Munks also enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and four children.
