About Glen Joffe
Glen Joffe - Professional Summary:
A resource for those interested in finding attractive, meaningful, authentic artwork from far or unknown areas of the world, Glen Joffe is considered an authority on the art of indigenous international cultures. The owner of the renowned Chicago gallery and retail store PRIMITIVE, Glen Joffe is known for presenting authentic artwork and the stories behind those pieces that make them so compelling.
Having made a foothold for his career in the arts at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Glen Joffe was taken under the wing of one of Chicago’s great impresarios, Harry Zelzer. Working with Zelzer, Glen Joffe developed a keen talent as an art promoter. Ultimately, Glen Joffe began representing folk artist George Colin, and in 1989 he opened Georgeart, a gallery solely dedicated to showcasing the art of George Colin.
While Glen Joffe enjoyed numerous opportunities due to the success of Georgeart, his favorite endeavor by far was opening the gallery now known as PRIMITIVE.
With interior designers and collectors comprising a rich market for authentic furniture and objects to adorn homes and offices, Glen Joffe ultimately expanded PRIMITIVE to include proprietary lines of furniture and accessories to meet the needs of daily living with a touch of the exotic. Moreover, Glen Joffe recognized the appeal of clothing and jewelry that combine traditional techniques with a modern sensibility, and has included these items in the PRIMITIVE brand. With his wife and partner at PRIMITIVE, Claudia Morgan, Glen Joffe continues to provide a global viewpoint while expanding the PRIMITIVE brand.
