About Gilda Mullette

A true artist, Gilda Mullette began her long and distinguished career as a dancer, and she earned an American Ballet Theatre scholarship while still a teenager. Also receiving invaluable training at The Juilliard School, New York City Ballet, and with The Royal Ballet in London, she performed all over the world, at venues in London, Paris, Monte Carlo, Russia, the Orient, and South America. On home soil, she danced in New York and at the White House. In classical theater, Gilda Mullette worked with such dance icons as George Balanchine, Rudolf Nureyev, Martha Graham, Alvin Ailey, and Bob Fosse, and with such composers as Leonard Bernstein and Aaron Copland.

An actress as well, Gilda Mullette studied the craft with Lee Strasberg, Sandy Meisner, and Stella Adler. Agnes de Mille and Richard Rodgers hired her for revivals of Carousel and Oklahoma at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and she has appeared in films or on stage with a who’s who of acting, including Marlon Brando, John Belushi, mime Marcel Marceau, Anthony Quinn, and Robert Morse. Gilda Mullette also performed in solo nightclub acts in major cities and on cruise ships. In addition, she choreographed dances for theater productions, films, nightclubs, and religious venues, and she taught ballet, acting, jazz, choreography, injury prevention, and other courses at the high school and college levels and in private studios.

The type of person who seizes life, Gilda Mullette operates under the philosophy of “If it doesn’t scare you, don’t do it.” She has jumped out of airplanes, flown gliders, and worked in the jungles of South America with primates, and she practices kung fu. Gilda Mullette also has acted as a Dean of Dance, studied and taught Ashtanga yoga, and written articles and critiques on dance, theater, art, and opera. The former ballerina reads daily, particularly appreciates French poetry, plays the flute and piano, grows organic vegetables, and loves to cook.
