Gavin McCann is a professional football player and was born on January 10, 1978 in Blackpool, which is located in England. As of 2008, this midfielder plays for Bolton Wanderers and resides in Lytham St. Annes with his wife, Lisa and daughter, Ruby. His grandfather and father, who were brought up in Bolton, worked as aircraft fitters with British Aerospace.

Gavin McCann started his football career by playing junior football for Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) juniors in Lytham St Annes. In 1997, he signed to play for Everton Football Club, with whom he made his Premiership debut. Gavin McCann made his debut against Newcastle United in September 1997 and played on the field six times, after which he went to join Sunderland. The club signed him for a fee of £500,000 on November 26, 1998, and the contract period was till July 24, 2003. In his first season with Sunderland, Gavin McCann scored his first goal in a League Cup match and followed it up with another goal in the FA Cup.
During his second season at the club, Gavin McCann scored four goals from 21 league matches and one goal from 2 FA Cup matches. He added another six goals to his tally and a promotion medal from the remaining seasons at the club.
July 24, 2003 marked the end of his career at Sunderland and marked the beginning of a new one at Aston Villa Football Club. He capped 28 times in the league matches, one time in FA Cup, and 6 times in the League Cup. The following season, Gavin McCann added another goal from his 20 caps in league matches, and in the corresponding seasons he appeared several times for the club. During his association with Aston Villa Football Club, he was named Man of the Match on two occasions, the first was against Tottenham and the second against Watford.
Following the end of his contract period with Aston Villa, Bolton Wanderers signed Gavin McCann to play for them for a transfer fee of £1,000,000. He was a regular member of the team and scored his first goal for the club at Middlesbrough in April 2008.
Gavin McCann says that he was keen to coach aspiring young footballers close to his home, and as a result, he launched his own football academy in February 2008. This academy is located in Lytham St Annes and is the first one of its kind on the Flyde coast. This school aims to coach young children between the age group of 8 to 12, and it runs at King Edward VII and Queen Mary School. Gavin McCann roped in former Blackpool players, Jamie Milligan and John Hills to build this academy.
