Gaurav Dhiman is a 21-year-old cricket player from New Delhi, India. Dhiman has represented India at the Under-15 and Under-19 levels and has also represented the Karnataka Under-19 team. Most recently, Gaurav Dhiman was part of the first season of the Indian Premier League, where he played for the Mumbai Indians.
Right-handed Gaurav Dhiman is best known for his batting, although he is more than useful with his fast-medium bowling. A big hitter of the ball, Dhiman displayed his might with the bat in a blistering 56-ball 74 against West Indies in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup.
At the domestic level, Gaurav Dhiman has represented Karnataka in 7 List A matches and just a single First-Class match. Dhiman’s performance with the bat has been inconsistent to say the least. Although he has only managed 119 runs in his domestic career so far, 94 of those came in a single innings. Although he has maintained a healthy strike rate of 76, his batting average is a low 19.8. Dhiman has also been ineffective with the ball and is yet to pick up a wicket.
However, Gaurav Dhiman’s ability to turn a match on its head with his blazing stroke play and raw power found takers in the Mumbai Indians camp, who recruited the youngster for the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League, a Twenty20 league constituted by the Board for Cricket Control in India consisting of teams from eight Indian cities and top players from around the world. However, Dhiman failed to get a look in and is yet to make his Twenty20 debut.
