Gary Cahill christened as Gary James Cahill, is a professional footballer born on December 19, 1985 in Sheffield, England.


Gary Cahill was selected for the Under (U)-21 English team in 2007, and was capped for the first time as a central defender in the match that was held at the new Wembley Stadium. Gary Cahill made it to the starting eleven of the team in a match at the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) European Under-21 Football Championship held in 2007.


Gary Cahill kicked off his football career at AFC Dronfield, a Sunday league team in his hometown, England. He played in this club until he signed up for Aston Villa's academy, when he was fifteen. He went on a loan to Burnley FC in 2004, where his consistent performance fetched him Burnley's ‘Player of the Year’ and ‘Young Player of the Year’ award for the 2004-2005 season. Gary Cahill signed for Aston Villa and made his debut for the club as a substitute in their match against Manchester United. In April 2006, he gave an impressive performance in a local derby match against West Bromwich Albion held at Villa Park.

 

He won the ‘Goal of the Season’ award for the 2005-2006 season during his tenure in the Villa Club. Gary Cahill scored his first goal for the Aston team in their victory against Birmingham City. He represented the team in several matches during the 2006-07 season and was considered to be a great player.
In September 2007, Gary Cahill went on a loan to Sheffield United and made his first appearance for the club against Crystal Palace. He scored his first goal for this club in their triumph over Stoke City in November 2007. Having made sixteen appearances for Sheffield United, he resumed his position back in Aston Villa by the end of 2007.


Early in 2008, Gary Cahill signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Bolton Wanderers and soon in February, he made his league debut for the club in their win over Reading. His excellent playing style made him a firm favourite at the Reebok Stadium, and it also fetched him the “Best Newcomer” award in their end of the season awards.


Gary Cahill has been quoted as the best young defender in England by Gary Megson, a renowned footballer. As of August 2008, he has represented the club in fifteen league matches.
