Created by Peter Clifton and Mike Shatzkin in 2008, FiledBy brings together writers, illustrators, photographers, and other book contributors in a modern, online web portal. Providing literary artists with the opportunity to market and share their work with the global community, FiledBy has grown to include more than 3 million author pages, associated with over 8 million book titles. Users are provided pre-assembled pages in the FiledBy website that can be designed and developed to meet the requirements of the author or artist. In addition to the provided tools, FiledBy offers low-priced web tools for users to further enhance their page and endorse their creations independently and effectively.

With the ability to navigate and view works from millions of authors, members of the FiledBy community enjoy widespread exposure and are able to connect with fellow creative professionals and fans across the globe. Apart from the chance to establish their own personal artist page, FiledBy members may add media to their site, allowing the rest of the community to listen to and watch podcasts and videos. Readers are also given the opportunity to create personal sites, where they can build and share a public bookshelf, create an author list, network with friends, and form groups and clubs within the FiledBy community.

While it exists as the first and only digital marketing services and online web portal of its kind, FiledBy acts as a supplementary tool to other social networking sites that also allow users to promote and endorse their work.
