Felicitas Kort - Professional Summary:    

 

A highly regarded mental health professional with more than 35 years of multifaceted experience, Felicitas Kort currently serves as Chief Director at the Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy Center for Families in Venezuela. Applying her skills in both the public and private sectors over the course of her long career, Ms. Kort maintains an independent practice in conjunction with efforts in research, writing, and advocacy. The President and founder of the Venezuelan Association for the Advancement Of Behavioral And Cognitive Psychotherapy and one of the founders and the first Vice-President of ALAMOC (Latin American Association for the Analysis and Modification of Behavior), Felicitas Kort also maintains membership in the Venezuelan Federation of Psychologists and the American Psychological Association, among other professional organizations. 

The recipient of numerous accolades and distinctions for her clinical achievements from academic institutions of note in Venezuela and America, Felicitas Kort was awarded a large grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to fund work on a preliminary violence prevention program she developed called A Truce for Venezuelans. Comprised of 80 workshops, 12 radio broadcasts, and four television commercials, this project focused on actionable approaches to minimizing stress and creating healthy behavior patterns. Widely hailed as a great success, A Truce for Venezuelans reached individuals across many demographics and income levels and furthered Venezuela’s violence prevention aims. 

Among her many teaching positions, Felicitas Kort acted as a Professor of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy at Lidice Psychiatric Hospital. Aside from providing her students with rigorous postgraduate clinical training to prepare them optimally for the demands of a psychiatric career, Ms. Kort oversaw a community outreach initiative to raise public awareness about the prevalence of anxiety disorders. Guiding students through the process of preparing and administering screening tests for these conditions, Felicitas Kort helmed the project for three years and departed from her teaching post confident that the program would continue to assert a positive impact long into the future.
