About Fatih Uckun
Fatih Uckun is currently working as a Professor of Research Pediatrics for Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California as well as for Childrens Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases of the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, He also serves as a Full Member of the University of Southern California Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center in Los Angeles, California. Graduating from Heidelberg University, Germany, with a Doctor of Medicine as well as a Ph.D equivalent in Internal Medicine, Dr. Uckun began his career in the US with a postdoctoral research fellowship in immunology with the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
After his postdoctoral research fellowship, Dr. Uckun completed a clinical residency training in pediatrics at the University of Minnesota and became a tenured Associate Professor during this time. Afterwards, he pursued a clinical fellowship in pediatric hematology, oncology, and bone marrow transplantation and became a tenured Full Professor of Pediatrics, Pharmacology, and Therapeutic radiology at the University of Minnesota. He was also named the first holder of the Endowed Hughes Chair in Biotherapy at the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center. In 1996, Dr. Uckun was elected to the very prestigious physician-scientist honor society American Society for Clinical Investigation.
Throughout his career, Dr. Uckun has obtained many awards, including the National Institute of Health FIRST Award, Leukemia Society of America Scholar Award, and Research Award of the Radiation Research Society. He also received the Stohlman Memorial Award, the highest honor given to the most productive Scholars of the Leukemia Society of America (also known as Leukemia and Lymphoma Society). He is an author of more than 400 publications in biomedical journals and he was awarded 75 US patents for his inventions. Currently residing in Glendale, California, Dr. Uckun enjoys spending time with his family, playing sports, and reading in his spare time.
