Farveez Maharoof

A dream long-cherished turned into a reality when Mohamed Farveez Maharoof, a passionate open-chest fast-bowler and right-handed batsman, bagged the chance to lead the Sri Lankan Under-19 cricket team in the Bangladesh World Cup. Young and energetic, this 24-year old all-rounder was born on September 7th, 1984 in the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo.

Better known as Fara, Mohammed Farveez Maharoof began his competitive cricket journey as a right-arm fast-medium bowler and a right-handed batsman at Wesley college. He worked his way to top by playing in all the age-group level teams for 5 years. His stellar performances got fast notice and soon he was working his way up the ladder with international cricket.

Mohammed Farveez Maharoof played his debut test match against Zimbabwe where he teamed up with fellow player Chaminda Vaas to rattle the opponents. And then, there was no looking back for this tall and lanky bowler is feared for his off stump swinging deliveries and his sound batting techniques. Mohammed Farveez Maharoof soon got a chance to showcase his multi-faceted abilities even against the mighty world champions, Australia. He also indicated his capability to play under pressure situations in the ICC Champions Trophy in England.

Mohammed Farveez Maharoof has been a part of the Delhi Daredevils team in the Indian Premier League. Heating up the scorecard with another seasoned cricketer Virender Sehwag, Maharoof has shown some promising talent. His consistent performances are sure to uplift the name of Sri Lanka in International Cricket. Being awarded as the Man of the Match five times, this lad is sure to go places and is one to watch out for. All he needs to do is show a little more improvement in his ODI’s and Twenty20 to get the ball rolling, literally.
