Fabio Pereira da Silva, commonly known as Fabio da Silva, is a Brazilian football player who was born on July 9, 1990 in Petropolis in Rio de Janeiro. His twin brother Rafael Pereira da Silva is also a footballer who plays for Manchester United Football Club.
Fabio da Silva captained Brazil Under-17 team during the finals of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Under-17 World Cup held in Korea in 2007 and played brilliantly to finish as the top goal-scorer.
Fabio da Silva started his professional football career in 2005 by playing for the youth team of Fluminense Football Club, which is considered to be one of the four main football clubs in Rio de Janeiro along with Botafogo, Flamengo, and Vasco da Gama. While representing Fluminese in a Hong Kong youth tournament in 2005, Les Kershaw, the then Academy Manager of Manchester United was impressed with Fabio da Silva and brought him to the notice of the club.
“Fabio”, as he is popularly known, signed a contract with Manchester United Football Club to play for them as a defender at the end of his stint at Fluminense Football Club in 2008. Sir Alex Ferguson, the club’s manager, feels that Fabio da Silva is an excellent player with lots of enthusiasm and determination.
