The Evergreen Psychotherapy Center / Attachment Treatment and Training Institute Co-Directors Michael Orlans, M.A., D.A.P.A., and Terry Levy, Ph.D., B.C.F.E., are committed to treating children with reactive attachment disorder, which the Mayo Clinic defines as a “serious condition in which infants and young children don’t establish healthy bonds with parents or caregivers,” and other attachment disorders. Along with the treatment they provide at the Evergreen Psychotherapy Center, Orlans and Levy conduct research with the cooperation of their patients and patients’ families. One such study tested the efficacy of the Evergreen Psychotherapy Center’s Corrective Attachment Therapy. The system of cognitive, emotional, and family therapies resulted in marked improvements in various symptom categories, including emotional, behavioral, cognitive, and relational.
Patients of the Evergreen Psychotherapy Center work directly with Orlans and Levy, who ensure a premium of care. Each of the Evergreen Psychotherapy Center’s therapists works only with one patient or family at a time, promoting a stronger connection between patient and healer. Children are never placed in foster homes during treatment at the Evergreen Psychotherapy Center, as this can sometimes exacerbate feelings of abandonment and neglect. Instead, treatment is given to the entire family in order to identify weaknesses in the family unit and repair the problems from the inside.
