About Euna McGruder
A natural leader, Euna McGruder, Ph.D., works within the Baltimore City public school system as a Principal. In July 2010, Dr. McGruder was appointed as the instructional leader of a Title I middle school in Baltimore. The designated turn-around school has a 100 percent minority student population, of which 98 percent are economically disadvantaged.
Euna McGruder has spent her time well in this challenging environment, establishing a new arts program for the students from the ground up. Her intent was to "foster the creative gifts" of the students to bring about more success in their artistic endeavors in the future. In addition, mathematics and reading proficiency test scores at the school have improved markedly since Dr. McGruder joined the administration. The city of Baltimore even recognized Euna McGruder with an award for increasing the school's attendance record over the past year.
Not only is Euna McGruder intent on enriching the lives of students, but she also focuses on improving the school's reputation, increasing enrollment, and fostering cultural exchanges with students, parents, and faculty members. Dr. McGruder personally reviews student performance scores each year and creates a yearly Framework for Action packet that outlines specific goals for the school. Furthermore, she holds weekly meetings with the teaching staff to assess the attainment of these goals. She is supportive of new teachers and recently designed a program for new instructors, with the intention of training them in the areas of school culture, classroom management, and classroom teaching strategies.
Dr. McGruder is involved with many educational groups, such as the National Association of Elementary School Principals, the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the District Consolidated School Improvement Plan Review Team. Aside from her work, Euna McGruder enjoys creative writing, fine arts, Pilates, motivational speaking, and mentoring youth.
Euna McGruder has made a lifelong career out of leading and educating young people. She holds a Master of Science in Teaching (Curriculum/Instruction) from the University of Dayton and a Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership in Educational Administration from Capella University.
