About Erin Roche
Erin Roche - Summary:
Erin Roche has served as Principal at a number of schools in the Chicago area, working to implement groundbreaking new educational practices to realize his vision of a brighter future for students. Roche obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Elementary Education at Knox College, where he studied from 1991 to 1993. He served as a Teacher Trainer with the Peace Corps from 1994 to 1995. Afterward, Erin Roche worked as a middle school teacher at Telpochchalli, a bi-cultural and bilingual school in Chicago until 1999.
Erin Roche taught seventh and eighth grades at Sabin Magnet School from 1999 to 2001. During that time, he pursued his Master of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Roche soon took a position with the National Teachers Academy as a New School Planner. In this capacity, Roche designed a component for professional development residency, worked with 8 teachers to improve instruction in reading and literature for more than 150 students, and discovered innovative new models for professional development centered on the school.
After serving in 2003 as Assistant Principal at Noble Street Charter High School, which specializes in college preparation for low-income minority students, Erin Roche assumed the role of Principal at Ravenswood School. There he succeeded in raising reading and math scores by 15 and 20 points, respectively, to the point that 71 and 73 percent of students met or exceeded standards. Additionally, Roche integrated ESL (English as a Second Language) students into the general education program, and he expanded the school’s Special Education program from 6 to 11 staff members.
Today, Erin Roche serves as Principal of Prescott Magnet Cluster School. He is pursuing his Doctorate in Education through Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, anticipating graduation in 2013.
