Erik Edman, a professional football player, was born on November 11, 1978 in Huskvarna, Sweden. He got married to Hanna Kjellsson in December 2006, and they have two children. The eldest is a son named Elias, who was born in September 2005 and their second child was born in May 2008.

Erik Edman plays for Sweden at the international level and has been a part of the national team since 2001. This left-back player was included in Sweden’s squad for the 2002 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup. He has appeared regularly at the Euro 2004 and 2006 FIFA World Cup tournaments and started in almost all the games that Sweden played. Erik Edman was named the Swedish Defender of the Year “Årets back" in 2004 for his note-worthy game play as a left-back. This Swedish player has a wide amount of international experience and has won over fifty international caps that included a goal scoring game. Erik Edman scored this international goal with a free-kick on March 26, 2005 at the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Bulgaria at the Vassil Levski Stadium.

Erik Edman started his football career by playing for the Habo IF youth football club, following which he joined Helsingborgs Idrottsförening (IF) in 1994. He played for this club till 1999 and appeared in sixty one games and has scored once. In 1999, he left Sweden and landed at an Italian club, Torino and represented the club during the 1999-2000 season. Erik Edman played eight games for a German football club, Karlsruher Sports Club in 2000 and went on to make twenty one appearances for a Swedish club, Allmänna Idrottsklubben (AIK) till the end of the 2000-2001 season.

The Sports club, Heerenveen, which is a football club based in Netherland, bought Erik Edman in 2001, and he played ninety one games for them till 2004. After his stint with this club, he signed to play for the English Premier League club, Tottenham Hotspur. Erik Edman was remembered for a brilliant goal that he scored from 35 yards out on April 16, 2005 in a Premier League match against Liverpool. Erik Edman featured in thirty one games for the Spurs before he made a move to the French football club, Stade Rennais. He was the first-choice to play in the left-back position for the team and had appeared in fifty six games during his stint at the club till 2008.

In January 2008, Wigan Athletic bought Erik Edman from Stade Rennais for a transfer fee of £500,000 and the Latics feel that he was a good choice for the replacement of their former player, Leighton Baines. As of 2008, he has played five games for the Wigan Athletic football club and wears the squad number 3.
