Eric Haber was no stranger to card games and used to play backgammon tournaments with his friend Phil 'Unabomber' Laak, a professional poker player from Los Angeles. He was introduced to online poker in 2003 by a friend, and he picked up the game quickly and started playing online under the screen name “sheets”. Eric Haber is a highly ranked internet tournament player on PocketFives.com and considered by some observers, as one of the top three online players in the world.
In November 2003, Eric Haber started his career with a respectable eighth-place finish in the No-Limit Hold’em event at the World Poker Finals Season 2 and walked away with $5,445. Early next year, in February, he won $5,995 by securing tenth place in Event 18 No-Limit Hold’em at the LA Poker Classic Season 2. On August 23, 2004, Eric Haber finished twelfth in Event 26 No-Limit Hold’em at the Legends of Poker Season 3 and made $3,085. The following month he earned $3,540 by finishing eighth in the No-Limit Hold’em event at the United States Poker Championship.
In 2005, Eric Haber had a few decent finishes, including a thirty-sixth place finish in the World Poker Tour (WPT) No-Limit Hold’em Event at the 36th Annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) for which he won $6,930. In September 2005, he again finished thirty-sixth and won a sum of $14,987 in the WPT No-Limit Hold’em event at the Borgata Poker Open Season 4. In November that year, Eric Haber played remarkably well in a field of 783 players to secure thirteenth place in the No-Limit Hold’em WPT Main Event at the World Poker Finals -Season 4 and took home an incredible amount of $89,700. The following year, in April, Eric Haber ranked twenty-second and earned $20,876 in the WPT No-Limit Hold’em Championship at the Foxwoods Poker Classic - Season 4. On September 26, 2006 Eric Haber had an impressive finish when he made it to the final table to secure second place and walk away with $21,760 in the No-Limit Hold’em event at the United States Poker Championship.
In March 2007, Eric Haber bagged $12,221 in Event 8 WSOP Circuit Hold’em Championship at the Harrah’s Atlantic City Poker Tournament by finishing sixteenth. In June 2007, he had two good finishes totaling to an amount of $17,749 in prize money. He secured a respectable eleventh-place finish that earned him $8,010 on November 2, 2007 in the No-Limit Hold’em event at the World Poker Finals – Season 6. A few days later, Eric Haber made it to the final table in the No-Limit Hold’em event at the World Poker Finals – Season 6 and won an awesome $30,070 by finishing sixth.
A major breakthrough in his career came in March 2008, when Eric Haber secured first place outlasting many well-known players and took away a whopping $431,136 in prize money and the WSOP Circuit gold and diamond champion’s ring in Event 9 WSOP Circuit No-limit Hold’em Championship at the Harrah’s Atlantic City Poker Tournament. This tournament, which was held at Caesars Atlantic City, attracted a field of 277 players and a prize pool of $1,357,300.
