Eric Dillner - Professional Summary:
Stage director and vocal instructor Eric Dillner has an uncanny ability to mount engaging productions on tight budgets while bringing out the best in his opera singers. A member of Opera America and the American Guild of Musical Artists, Eric Dillner has taught singers and produced operas for two decades.
Eric Dillner taught private vocal lessons throughout the 1990s in Florida, Louisiana, and New York, and over the past 10 years he has also conducted masterclasses, given workshops, and facilitated voice clinics and lectures at university music departments. Additionally, Eric Dillner has eight years of experience as a vocal career coach, offering professional advice on contract negotiation and repertoire selection as well as conducting audition analysis and career path mentorship. Eric Dillner has also held faculty positions at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Long Island University, and Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport.
Given his varied background in performance, arts management, and stage direction, Eric Dillner has been invited to speak on topics including the history of opera, vocal pedagogy, language diction, non-profit business administration, crisis management, acting fundamentals, grant writing, board building, and strategic research. Eric Dillner used this experience to develop a seminar in role preparation for Long Island University’s music department.
From 1998 until 2001, Eric Dillner worked with the Voice Center, a multi-institutional organization that provides comprehensive vocal care for singers, ranging from education and training to voice management, therapeutic vocal treatments, and applied and basic research into voice disorders and laryngeal physiology.
In 2001, Eric Dillner joined Shreveport Opera as the General and Artistic Director. Eric Dillner commissioned and produced youth operas, including Herman the Horse, Why Dinosaurs Don’t Litter, What is Freedom, and Why Dinosaurs Don’t Smoke. Themes included child obesity, smoking prevention, and the story of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
Eric Dillner has been recognized by the Paul Harris Service Award, the Eddy Award for Arts Education Excellence, and the 40 Under 40 Executive Achievement Award. A graduate of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, Eric Dillner also received several student awards, including a full tuition scholarship and stipend for his Master of Music in Opera Production.
