About Emily Seay
An educator with experience as a sports coach and guidance counselor as well, Emily Seay studied biology at University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia, completing her Bachelor of Science in 2002. Following her graduation, Ms. Seay worked as an ophthalmic assistant at the Virginia Eye Institute, where she informed parents about pediatric eye care, assisted physicians with outpatient ophthalmic procedures, and performed eye exams for children and teens. Emily Seay began her career as a teacher at Matoaca High School in Chesterfield, Virginia, sharing her wealth of knowledge as an instructor for biology, earth science, and introductory science courses. During her time at Matoaca from 2003 to 2007, Ms. Seay selected new textbooks, software, Standard of Learning review guides, and lab materials for the biology curriculum. Ms. Seay also led the varsity field hockey team through its initial year of AAA district competition, and served as Assistant Track Coach in 2006.
During this time, Emily Seay continued her own education, obtaining her Collegiate Professional License with a biology endorsement from University of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University in 2005. Ms. Seay furthered her studies on a graduate level at the University of Virginia. While pursuing her Master of Education in School Counseling, Ms. Seay served as a Graduate Assistant for University Career Services, aiding career counselors in developing resources for undergraduates, heading up the reorganization of service’s library in 2008, and leading workshops for undergraduate students seeking internships. Simultaneously, Ms. Seay worked at Louisa County High School as a School Counseling Intern, a role that allowed her to jump-start her counseling career with subsequent positions at Locust Grove Middle School and her current employer, Prospect Heights Middle School. At Prospect Heights, Emily Seay holds several key roles in addition to Professional School Counselor, including 504 Plan Case Manager, Attendance Officer, and Olweus Bullying Prevention Program Committee Chair.
