About El Dorado Furniture

Founded in 1967 by the Capó family, who were newly arrived political refugees from Cuba, El Dorado Furniture continues to honor both its Latin roots and its obligation to support the larger community. Manuel Capó and two of his sons, Carlos and Luis, named their store after the little sailboat that helped them escape Cuba. In the ensuing 43 years, El Dorado Furniture has grown to 11 showrooms and 2 furniture and mattress outlets. In 2004, the company opened the biggest furniture showroom in Florida, and by 2006 Furniture Today magazine rated El Dorado Furniture among the top 50 furniture sellers in the nation.

El Dorado Furniture
maintains its standing as a contributor to the community through extensive humanitarian and charitable initiatives. Many local or greater Miami charities and nonprofits have received donations and volunteer assistance from the firm, including Centro Comunitario de Salud de Miami Beach, Better Way of Miami, Hands in Action Miami, the Historical Museum of Southern Florida, the Miami Police Department, and the Miami Children’s Hospital.

Camillus House, a nonprofit Miami shelter for the poor and homeless, has received the support of El Dorado Furniture, as has The Willy Chirino Foundation, which serves the needs of displaced Latin American children, especially those from Cuba. 40 Years, 40 Families, a program run by Neighbors 4 Neighbors, enabled the company to help provide new furnishings to families that lost their homes and furniture to gas explosions or Florida hurricanes. El Dorado Furniture observed its own 40th anniversary by participating in 40 Years, 40 Families in 2007. The company also donated funds and volunteer labor to the Amigos for Kids’ annual holiday toy drive in 2010.

Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, El Dorado Furniture helped the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) by allowing the agency to place collection stations in all its stores, which encouraged shoppers to donate food, supplies, and money. All contributions went to the earthquake victims, and El Dorado Furniture matched all monetary donations. Another El Dorado Furniture program takes company executives to local universities and colleges, where they lead seminars in entrepreneurship and the operation of family businesses. In addition, the firm participates in career day events at middle and elementary schools.
