E G Harvin, or Ezra G Harvin if you will, is – by definition – not a professional poker player. Moreover – in 2006, a few days prior to the winning that brought him acknowledgement in the professional poker scene, E G Harvin was quoted saying that he would never make the poker game his career, even if he could.
E G Harvin learned to play poker as a young boy, when he was 7 years old. His father was a compulsive gambler, so his children were taught to play the game, and lost their pocket money to their father from time to time, while other children their age were into candies and playing catch. Even though he started playing poker as a kid, E G Harvin claims he is not a professional player.
As he grew up, E G Harvin quit playing poker and only returned to the game a few years ago, as he moved with his family into a development. He met some people who were playing poker at a clubhouse and started all over again with low limit games, such as $1/$2. A while later he quit playing again, after it just wasn't fun for him.
In November 2006 E G Harvin won a few Act 2 Satellites with a buy-in of $150, and a seat was reserved for him in the 5th Season events of the WPT. The first tournament he participated in, which was his first live professional poker tournament ever, was the No Limit Hold'em tournament, in which E G Harvin took the 59th place along with $1,400 on November 4th, 2006.
The place and prize weren't too shabby for a first tournament, but E G Harvin could do better, much better. And that he proved on the next tournament that took place a few days later, on November 16th, 2006. It was the WPT No Limit Hold'em Championship, the main event of the World Poker Finals. He played his hands well and made it all the way to the final table and to the 2nd place, beaten only by the Canadian Nenad Medic, aka "Serb". In addition to that surprising 2nd place, E G Harvin also won $904,389. Now, this is an amazing amount of money, even for a professional poker player, not to mention an amateur.
Ever since his grand 2nd place winning in the WPT No Limit Hold'em Championship, E G Harvin had only made it to the cash in one more tournament so far – the No Limit Hold'em Super Satellite of the Bellagio Cup III on July 10th, 2007. There he made it to the 15th place and won $10,500.
E G Harvin is a disciplined player who plays a solid game and seems to be good company for his surroundings. He resides in West Palm Beach, Florida, been married for 41 years, has two children and six grandchildren.
