About Dr Wade Grindle
Raised in Laguna Beach, California, in a medical family (Dad was an eye surgeon, mother an RN).
Loved the ocean, swimming, bodysurfing, snorkeling. Says he spent more time in the water than on land. Was a Laguna Beach Lifeguard for four summers. Competitive swimmer and water polo player in high school – set several high school records in freestyle swimming. Graduated class of 1976.
Attended college at University of California at Davis as a pre-veterinary student. Competed on intercollegiate water polo team at Davis. During his junior year, he transferred for one semester to the Fall 1979 Semester at Sea program, attending classes onboard the S.S. Universe, sailing around the world. He visited the Peoples’ Republic of China, India, Kenya, South Africa, and many other interesting countries. It was on this voyage that he met his first wife, who he later married and with whom he had two children. Received a B.S. in Psychology from U.C. Davis in 1981.
Enrolled in UC San Diego School of Medicine in the fall of 1982, graduated 1986.
Internship and Anesthesiology residency at Mercy Hospital in San Diego, graduated 1990. Passed his written and oral boards at the first attempt, and became board-certified in Anesthesiology the next year.
Moved to upper Midwest for six years, then returned to California in 1996, where he joined the anesthesiology group at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage.
He has extensive experience in providing anesthesia for cardiac, neurosurgical, obstetrical, major vascular, orthopedic, and pediatric surgical subspecialties. He also joined the Eisenhower pain clinic, in addition to anesthesiology; and in 1998, he became board-certified in his second specialty, pain management.
As a pain management specialist, Dr. Grindle developed a reputation as a compassionate physician who took the time to really listen to his patients. He treats every patient as an individual, with unique needs, and customizes the treatment plan accordingly. He was the first physician in the Coachella Valley to become a member of the International Spinal Intervention Society, widely recognized as the leading authority promoting evidenced-based standards of practice among interventional pain management practitioners.
During his last year on staff at Eisenhower Medical Center, he was the only physician surgically implanting spinal cord stimulators and intraspinal morphine pumps. He left the group at Eisenhower in 1999 to go into solo practice.
In 2001, he also became the first physician in the region to perform intradiscal coblation nucleoplasty. Dr. Grindle has helped thousands of patients conquer their pain, restore their mobility, regain their employment, return to their favorite recreational activities, and repair relationships that have been damaged by chronic pain. He has been overwhelmingly gratified by the response of his patients.
In addition, Dr. Grindle recently completed the Advanced Specialty Track Fellowship (http://www.anes.ucla.edu/uclaadvancedspecialty.php) at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center, which was recently named #3 in U.S. News and World Report’s annual Honor Roll of America’s Best Medical Centers (see http://health.usnews.com/articles/health/best-hospitals/2009/07/15/americas-best-hospitals-the-2009-2010-honor-roll.html).
