Following the receipt of his MS in special education from the University of Oregon, Dr. Michael Barta earned a PhD in counselor education and supervision from the University of Colorado. He then trained at the International Institute for Trauma & Addiction Professionals, attaining the Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) designation as well as CSAT supervisor credentials. Thereafter, Dr. Michael Barta founded the Colorado Sexual Recovery Center, where he serves as director and works with a team of specialists to treat sex addiction patients and their partners.
Furthermore, Dr. Michael Barta is a member of several professional organizations, such as the American Counselor Association and the National Board of Certified Counselors. Since 2006, he has been a member of the adjunct faculty in Metropolitan State University’s Department of Psychology.
Outside of managing his private practice, Dr. Barta works to educate the public and peers on issues related to his field of knowledge through writing and speaking engagements. He has written a chapter on violence in schools published in the collection Youth at Risk. As a lecturer on the treatment of sexual addiction, he has spoken at the University of Colorado and the Sierra Tucson Treatment Center.
