An internist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary diseases, Dr. K. Virender Mendiratta completed premedical studies at DAV College in Kanpur, India, and earned an MD from the All India Institute of Medical Science in New Delhi, India. Arriving in the United States to pursue further training, he completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of West Virginia, followed by a fellowship in critical care of pulmonary disease at the Detroit Medical Center’s Sinai-Grace Hospital. In the same year that he finished his fellowship, Dr. K. Virender Mendiratta attended a professional conference in Boston, Massachusetts, where he won first prize for his research paper on the effectiveness of atropine inhalation to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Since 1984, Dr. Kanwar Mendiratta has operated the private practice Pulmonary Internal Medicine Specialist, PC, in Southfield, Michigan. Along with examining, advising, and administering care for ambulatory patients visiting his office, he treats in-patients at Huron Valley and Sinai-Grace Hospital. At Great Lakes Specialty Hospital, Dr. Kanwar Mendiratta serves as director of pulmonary medicine. Throughout his first decade in private practice, Dr. Mendiratta also provided assistance to the US Department of Labor in the administration of care for coal miners suffering occupational lung and asbestos-related diseases.
When away from the office and hospital, Dr. K. Virender Mendiratta enjoys dining out with family and friends, reading, and following Detroit’s professional sports franchises.
