Dr. Sean Tunis

Dr. Sean Tunis leverages years of professional medical experience toward his current role as Director of the Center for Medical Technology Policy (CMTP). Having founded the CMTP in 2006, Dr. Sean Tunis has since developed a reputation as a pioneer in the medical field. Dr. Sean Tunis founded CMTP in an effort to provide new evidence and research on the benefits, costs, and risks of cutting-edge medical technology. As Founder and Director, Dr. Sean Tunis not only raised the money to make the CMTP operational, but also plays a key role in raising funds for the CMTP's projects. Recognized nationwide as a deeply experienced medical professional, Dr. Sean Tunis is often invited to speak on panels regarding comparative effectives, pragmatic trials, and other related topics.

 

Prior to his founding CMTP, Dr. Sean Tunis served in several positions with the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) over the course of five years. Dr. Sean Tunis started at CMS as the Director of the Coverage and Analysis Group. Having shown exceptional expertise and skills, Dr. Sean Tunis soon took on the positions of Chief Medical Officer and Director of the Office of Clinical Standards and Quality. In these vitally important roles, Dr. Sean Tunis was responsible for the development of clinical policy and quality standards for the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Dr. Sean Tunis also co-chaired the CMS Council on Technology and Innovation.

 

Dr. Sean Tunis laid the foundation for his professional success with his extensive academic achievements. Dr. Sean Tunis earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine. In addition to his MD, Dr. Sean Tunis possesses a Master's degree in Health Services Research from Stanford and a Bachelor's degree in History of Science from Cornell University.

 

Dr. Sean Tunis currently makes his home in Baltimore, Maryland.
