About Dr. Sandra Ellis
Possessing more than 35 years of experience in the education sector, Sandra Ellis co-founded the campus safety and security business Ellis and Ellis Consulting, LLC, in 2006. As a Managing Partner with the firm, Ellis strives to improve security and safety measures at local schools through a combination of research, audits, training, and curriculum development. She accomplishes these tasks by contributing as the Assistant Director to the Illinois School and Campus Security Training Program, which includes the Illinois Terrorism Task Force, the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System, the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois Board of Higher Education, the Illinois Community College Board and other prominent groups. In addition, Sandra Ellis oversees the Federal Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) grant program administrative evaluation, accountability and technical assistance process for several school districts within the state. Since 2008, Ellis has also functioned as a Faculty Instructor in the Texas A&M University System, working within the institution’s Public Safety and Security Division. She helps schools, higher education officials and emergency responders prepare for catastrophic events through the National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center and travels across the country performing threat and risk assessment training with federal, local, and state forces.
Prior to this, Sandra Ellis spent served several years on the faculty at the University of Illinois Springfield, where she worked in the Center for Legal Studies and the College of Education & Human Services. During this time, Ellis also served the Illinois State Police Academy as a Public Service Administrator and presided as the Superintendent of Schools for several local districts. Furthermore, she acted as the Director of Professional Development and UniServe for the Illinois Education Association from 2000 to 2005. Throughout her career, Sandra Ellis has frequently received awards and recognition for her public service, including an Aegis Award of Excellence and an Educational Emmy Award for the substance abuse video “Illinois Get in the kNOw.” Ellis has also garnered the Ohio Senate Presidential Commendation and has been nominated as the Outstanding Employee of the Year by the Illinois State Board of Education.
An active member of the community, Sandra Ellis recently became a Board Member with The Little Theatre on the Square. Ellis belongs to several professional organizations as well, such as the Consumers Union, the National Board for Certified Counselors Foundation and the Consumer Reports Foundation. She also regularly donates to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Marines’ Toys for Tots Foundation, the Navy League of the United States, and other charitable causes.
