Dr. Milton Richardson, a board-certified podiatrist, believes that the feet are the mirror of overall health, because the feet are often the first body parts to display the symptoms of arthritis, diabetes, and circulatory and nerve disorders. Dr. Milton Richardson insists that despite the finding that nearly 75 per cent of all Americans will experience some degree of foot pain during the course of their lives, foot pain is never normal, and it could be a sign of more serious conditions. In Dr. Milton Richardson’s experience, women suffer considerably more foot pain than men do because they wear shoes with high heels and narrow toe boxes. The pressure from such uncomfortable footwear initially causes corns and calluses, but can lead to bunions, metatarsalgia (ball of foot pain), neuromas (swollen nerves), and sometimes fractures. Dr. Milton Richardson earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Howard University in Washington, DC, and a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in North Chicago, Illinois. At Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Milton Richardson fulfilled a one-year foot surgery residency. Following his residency, Dr. Milton Richardson relocated to North Carolina and joined a medical practice in Raleigh. Several Raleigh-Durham area hospitals subsequently hired Dr. Richardson on staff. Eventually, he opened two of his own offices, Podiatry Offices of Dr. Milton W. Richardson, PC in Apex and Durham, to provide diagnostic tests, physical and orthotic therapies, and minor surgical procedures. Dr. Richardson performs major surgeries at the WakeMed Health & Hospitals, Rex UNC Healthcare, the HealthSouth Blue Ridge Surgery Center, and Duke Raleigh Hospital. Dr. Milton Richardson is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the American Board of Lower Extremity Surgery, the American Podiatric Medical Association, Inc., and the North Carolina Foot & Ankle Society. He is a former member of the Durlacher Podiatric Honor Society and the North Carolina Board of Podiatry Examiners.
