About Dr. Kene Ugokwe

Clinical Instructor Dr. Kene Ugokwe serves on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin Department of Neurosurgery and is a specialist in spinal issues. Dr. Kene Ugokwe holds board certifications from the states of Ohio and Wisconsin as well as from the American Association of Neurological Surgery.


Dr. Kene Ugokwe attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. from 1995 until 1998, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. In each year of his undergraduate studies, Dr. Kene Ugokwe was a dean’s list member and recipient of the Howard University Trustee Tuition Scholarship, a merit-based award that recognizes outstanding academic achievement.


Subsequently, Dr. Kene Ugokwe enrolled in medical school at Howard University, where he received the Howard University Medical Alumni Association Class of 1959 Scholarship Award, given to a freshman medical student with high academic promise. Dr. Kene Ugokwe also received the Howard University Herzog Family Scholarship during every year of medical school. Dr. Kene Ugokwe graduated in 2002.


In addition to his general medical training, Dr. Kene Ugokwe has completed a series of specialized internships and residencies. Dr. Kene Ugokwe undertook an internship at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, from 2002 until 2003, followed by a residency at the Cleveland Clinic’s Department of Neurosurgery, from 2003 until 2008. During this time, Dr. Kene Ugokwe received the North American Spine Society Traveling Fellowship.


Dr. Kene Ugokwe held the post of Chief Resident in Neurosurgery from 2008 until 2009 before accepting a fellowship to study spinal issues at the University of Wisconsin Department of Neurosurgery, where he has stayed on as a faculty member.


Some of the specialized courses Dr. Kene Ugokwe has completed include the Cleveland Clinic Epilepsy Course, the Cleveland Clinic Spine Review Course, the Anspach Approaches to the Skull Base Course, and the Stryker Deformity for Neurosurgeons Course. Dr. Kene Ugokwe has also conducted research on spinal issues and published papers in scholarly journals.
