About Dr. Kathleen McCombs
Periodontics specialist Kathleen McCombs touts an impressive record of academic and vocational successes in her field. Kathleen McCombs’ educational experience was peppered with awards and scholarships, and her career has taken her abroad to share her knowledge and skills with her peers.
Kathleen McCombs attended both Brigham Young University and the University of Utah during her undergraduate years. After completing her pre-dental coursework, Kathleen McCombs entered the University of the Pacific’s School of Dentistry with a Virginia Smith Scholarship. There she conducted a predoctoral research project entitled Intervention Strategies for Smokeless Tobacco Users, won the Quintessence Award for Clinical Achievement in Periodontics, and earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery. Kathleen McCombs spent a few years in general dentistry practice in California and Utah before moving on to study periodontology.
To specialize in periodontics, one must finish post-graduate work and a several-year residency. Kathleen McCombs acquired her Master of Science in Dentistry from Indiana University’s School of Dentistry, where her course load included a multitude of implant courses. She also received certification in intravenous sedation and taught clinical courses on pre-doctoral periodontics.
Upon graduation, Kathleen McCombs spent many years as a guest lecturer for local and international institutions. She held a part-time teaching position at Primary Children’s Hospital, instructing pediatric dental residents and served as a visiting instructor in the Dental Hygiene program at Salt Lake Community College. She also taught at the Institute of Odonto-Somatology in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Kathleen McCombs currently runs her own practice in Draper, Utah, where she treats patients for periodontal diseases and complications. At the same time, she remains active in educating her colleagues, giving presentations and speeches for numerous dental societies and associations. Kathleen McCombs is enthusiastic in her community, talking at grade schools, volunteering at shelters, and serving on association boards. When she is not working, Kathleen McCombs enjoys tennis, golf, travel, and reading.
