About Dr. Julio Williams
Dr. Julio Williams - Professional Summary:
With specialties in adult cardiac surgery, general thoracic surgery, and peripheral vascular surgery, Julio Williams, MD applies 25 years of clinical and educative experience toward treating patients at Woodland Heights Medical Center and the Cardio-Thoracic Institute of East Texas in the city of Lufkin, located northeast of Houston.
Prior to his arrival in Lufkin, Julio Williams, MD had performed many transmyocardial laser revascularization (TMR) surgeries, but he became the first doctor to perform the surgery at Woodland Heights Medical Center when he successfully completed the procedure on a 56-year-old patient with angina. Using a high-powered carbon dioxide laser, Julio Williams, MD created channels in the patient's heart to improve blood flow and relieve his acute chest pain.
Not satisfied with introducing a single procedure to the East Texas region, Julio Williams, MD has also served as the first surgeon to perform a minimally invasive procedure to treat abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA), which are the 17th leading cause of death in the United States. Prior to the advent of this technique, patients could spend up to nine months recovering from an open aneurysm repair. However, with this new method, called endovascular abdominal aneurysm repair (EVAR), Julio Williams, MD can access the aorta through an artery in the leg(usually in the groin), significantly reducing recovery time and the length of hospital stay.
In October 2006, Julio Williams, MD instituted yet another first for Woodland Heights Medical Center when he performed a beating-heart bypass surgery. Julio Williams, MD conducted the entire operation without stopping the patient's heart, eliminating the need for a heart-lung machine, developed over 50 years ago, which can prove stressful to a patient's cardiovascular system. The innovative, less invasive surgery technique introduced to East Texans by Julio Williams, MD can reduce recovery time, shorten hospital stays, and minimize the chances of severe neurological and cognitive complications.
