About Dr. George Fielding
A well-regarded laparoscopic and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgeon, George Fielding, M.D., possesses expertise in Lap-Band and bypass weight-loss procedures. After graduating from The University of Queensland in Australia, where he earned a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, he completed a surgical internship, residencies, and fellowships at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. George Fielding, M.D., undertook additional fellowship training at Glasgow Royal Infirmary in Scotland, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in England, The Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, and the University of Bern in Switzerland. A recipient of the Alan J. Lee Memorial Prize and the Lillee Scholarship, George Fielding, M.D., held academic appointments at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital as a Staff Surgeon and Visiting Surgeon. Since 1991, he has acted as a Visiting Surgeon at Wesley Hospital in Brisbane, Australia. At the NYU School of Medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center, George Fielding, M.D., has served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery since 2004. For nearly 20 years, he has conducted workshops in laparoscopic surgery in Japan, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, and the United States, as well as other countries around the world. With a special interest in obesity and related issues, George Fielding, M.D., opened the Wesley Obesity Clinic in Australia in 1995. He has performed more than 6,000 weight-loss surgeries. More recently, he created a program to surgically manage obesity in children. With experience in standard and revisional bariatric surgery, as well as surgery for the morbidly obese, George Fielding, M.D., continues to conduct research and publish on the subject. He maintains a particular interest in adolescent morbid obesity. Since 2001, he has presented Lap-Band workshops and Lap-Band proctoring throughout the United States with BioEnterics Corporation (now Inamed). Frequently invited to speak at scientific conferences, George Fielding, M.D., has addressed the International Surgical Congress of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland on the topic “Making the World a Thinner Place.” At the Gastric Band Summit: The Past, Present, and Future in Orlando, Florida, he joined two panels and lectured on patient selection. A member of the Australian Medical Association and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, George Fielding, M.D., also belongs to the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
