Possessing more than three decades of experience, Dr. Franklin Epstein currently serves as Chief of Neurosurgery at Audie L. Murphy Memorial Hospital. Dr. Franklin Epstein has been part of the faculty of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHSCSA) since 2005. The mission of UTHSCSA’s program is to provide students with in-depth knowledge and state-of-the-art surgical techniques in an effort to advance the diagnostic and operative skills of neurosurgical practitioners. Each year, UTHSCSA hosts a wide variety of world-class workshops. UTHSCSA will be the host of an upcoming two-day workshop, Endoscopic Treatment of Craniosynostosis, scheduled for 2011. Professionals will be able to observe live surgical procedures and interact with the hospital’s surgical staff.
The valedictorian at NYU Med School, Dr. Franklin Epstein completed his medical studies in 1973. Building on his impressive academic achievements, he undertook a three-year Internal Medicine residency at Harvard Medical School’s Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. During this residency, Dr. Franklin Epstein received the Radiology Annual Award. Dr. Franklin Epstein went on to complete a three-year residency in Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital, earning the position of Chief Resident of Neurology in 1982. After relocating to Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Franklin Epstein served five years as a Resident in Neurosurgery at the Medical College of Virginia, becoming an Instructor in the Department of Neurosurgery. Dr. Franklin Epstein is a former student of Nobel Laureate Professor Salvador E. Luria, who served as his advisor while he completed his of Honors Thesis at MIT.
Dr. Franklin Epstein is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Franklin Epstein is also a member of American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
