About Dr. David Wise
David Wise, Ph.D. is a psychologist who contributed to a groundbreaking treatment for prostatitis & chronic pelvic pain. As a sufferer of chronic pelvic pain himself, Dr. Wise discovered a method for resolving his own discomfort and he shared this method with Dr. Rodney Anderson, who is a professor of Urology at Stanford University School of Medicine as well as an expert in pelvic pain. Dr. Anderson and Dr. Wise worked together at Stanford University Medical Center for 8 years, using the method Dr. Wise introduced for treating patients with pelvic pain.
The Wise-Anderson Protocol is a behavioral method treating pelvic pain as a functional disorder. It is a new perspective which understands that muscle related pelvic pain is not a problem of pathology of the structure of the pelvis. In fact, the problem occurs because of the way that muscles of the pelvic floor function when disturbed by chronic tension or spasticity which is often triggered by intense periods of stress. In a peer-reviewed study in the Journal of Urology, the Wise-Anderson Protocol was shown to have helped over 70% of male patients with pelvic pain, including those who were unresponsive to any other form of treatment.
Dr. David Wise and Dr. Rodney Anderson have published many research articles on different facets of the Wise-Anderson Protocol and also have a bestselling book called 'A Headache in the Pelvis' which was recently released in its 6th edition. The Wise-Anderson Protocol was popularly known as the Stanford Protocol for many years, and the focus of this method is training patients to reduce chronic muscle tone in the pelvis as well as reducing the nervous system arousal which feeds into a cycle of tension, anxiety, pain and protective guarding.
