Over the course of a career spanning several decades, Dr. Christine Ren-Fielding has maintained active memberships in many respected professional medical organizations. She supports the American Heart Association, the Association of Women Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, and the American College of Surgeons, where she has been a Fellow since 2003. A recipient of both the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Citation and the Dr. Theodore Barnett Memorial Resident Teaching Award, among others, Dr. Christine Ren-Fielding currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at New York University’s Langone Medical Center School of Medicine. Dr. Christine Ren-Fielding earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1988. Upon her graduation, Dr. Christine Ren-Fielding enrolled in the research assistant program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1989, Dr. Christine Ren-Fielding enrolled in the graduate program at the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, earning her degree in 1993. At that point, Dr. Christine Ren-Fielding transitioned into internships and residencies in general surgery at several institutions in New York, including Bellevue Hospital, the Manhattan Veterans Administration Hospital, and the New York University Medical Center. From 1998 through 1999, Dr. Christine Ren-Fielding was named the Chief Resident in the program. Dr. Christine Ren-Fielding has received additional academic appointments from the Mount Sinai Medical Center’s Minimally Invasive Surgery Center, where she worked as a Clinical Fellow in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery from 1999 through 2000. An author of numerous articles and journals on various medical topics, Dr. Christine Ren-Fielding serves on the editorial boards of several prominent medical journals and serves as a consultant to various companies, including ExploraMed, Novare, and the Council for Advancement in Bariatrics.
