About Dr. Atul Prakash
Dr. Atul Prakash leverages medical training from three countries in his roles as teacher and physician, with a focus on cardiac pacing and electrophysiology. Dr. Prakash studied general medicine in India and the United Kingdom, earning a Doctor of Internal Medicine from Agra University and completing his training at King's College Hospital in London. Duties as a senior house officer and registrar in multiple hospitals in the UK required him to make both emergency and day-to-day decisions related to patient care.
While training in the UK, Dr. Atul Prakash specialized in general cardiology. Encompassing invasive cardiological procedures, Dr. Prakash performed more than 600 right and left heart catheterizations and approximately 100 elective coronary angioplasties. Dr. Prakash also possesses training in noninvasive investigative procedures, including treadmill exercise testing, Doppler imaging, echocardiography, and Holter monitoring.
Throughout his career, Dr. Atul Prakash contributed to over 30 presentations and over 160 publications. In 1993, the doctor co-authored his first publication, titled “Correction of myocardial ischaemia after transcatheter embolisation of a small left coronary artery fistula.” Printed in the British Heart Journal, the piece represented a field that Dr. Prakash would continue to explore in the following years. More recently, he co-wrote “Persistent syncope in patients with implanted pacemakers for bradycardia: Tilt testing. Response of Closed Loop stimulation and its role in improvement in outcome” for the Heart Rhythm Society in 2010.
Though devoted to serving his patients 365 days of the year, Dr. Atul Prakash enjoys long-distance running in his spare time. He remains active with charity groups such as Hindu Seva Charities, and works with organizations to deliver free health care to those in need. Dr. Prakash has been named one of the Top Doctors in New Jersey by New Jersey Monthly from 2009-2011.
